Purpose
NEEC embraces artificial intelligence as a tool to enhance the capabilities of our people, improve the experience of our employees and customers, and make our organization more efficient and effective.
We believe AI can be a powerful resource when used responsibly. Our approach is simple: AI will support our people, not replace them.
This charter establishes the principles that guide how NEEC will and will not use artificial intelligence.
How We Will Use AI
Research and Knowledge
We will use AI to accelerate research, organize and analyze information, explore ideas, and help our employees find and understand information more efficiently. Information produced through AI will be evaluated and verified by people before it is relied upon.
Employee Experience
We will use AI to reduce repetitive administrative work, make information easier to access, improve internal processes, and give our employees more time to focus on work that requires their expertise, experience, creativity, and judgment.
Customer Experience
We will use AI to help us serve customers more effectively by improving responsiveness, access to information, communication, and the overall experience of working with NEEC. AI will support our customer relationships, not replace the people responsible for them.
Technology and Integration
We will use AI to assist with technology integrations, workflow development, data organization, and the connection of systems and information across our business.
Process Improvement and Automation
We will use AI as part of automation and process improvement where it can eliminate unnecessary work, improve consistency, increase efficiency, or help our employees perform their jobs more effectively.
How We Will Not Use AI
AI Will Not Make Decisions
AI may provide information, analysis, recommendations, or alternatives, but it will not make business, employment, engineering, safety, financial, contractual, or customer decisions on behalf of NEEC. Accountability for decisions remains with people.
AI Will Not Replace Human Judgment
AI output is not a substitute for professional expertise, engineering judgment, experience, or common sense. Employees remain responsible for evaluating and validating information produced with the assistance of AI.
AI Will Not Create Our Final Work Product
AI may assist with research, analysis, organization, and the improvement of human-created work, but it will not independently create original content or serve as the author of NEEC’s final work product. Work representing NEEC must ultimately be created, reviewed, validated, and owned by the people responsible for it.
AI Will Not Replace Human Capital
NEEC will not adopt AI for the purpose of replacing our people. We will use AI to increase what our employees are capable of accomplishing and to allow them to spend more of their time applying the expertise, relationships, judgment, and problem-solving abilities that create value for our customers.
Human Accountability
Regardless of the technology used, responsibility remains human.
The person producing, approving, or delivering work remains accountable for its accuracy, quality, safety, appropriateness, and compliance with NEEC standards and customer requirements.
AI assistance does not transfer that responsibility to a system, platform, or algorithm.
Our Commitment
NEEC believes the greatest value of artificial intelligence comes from combining technology with human expertise.
We will continue to explore and adopt AI where it can make our people more capable, our processes more effective, and our customers’ experience better. We will do so deliberately, responsibly, and with the understanding that technology assists our work, but people remain responsible for it.
